POETIC LICENSE 2019: RESILIENCE

For All Performances see our full calendar
March 15, 2019 - March 17, 2019

Poetic Theater Productions is proud to announce our 8th Annual Poetic License festival to be presented at the Wild Project. The theme for Poetic License 2019 is RESILIENCE.

Resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress, a coherent sense of self that one is able to maintain through these circumstances. How do we cope with this ever-present onslaught and bounce back to create art and the world in which we want to exist?

The festival will include our annual showcases Generation Now!, Poetic Lyricism, Veteran Voices, and Breaking Our Silence.

Breaking Our Silence
March 15th 8:00pm
Celebrating seven years of Breaking Our Silence programming, the showcase was launched in the 2013 Poetic License Festival by Joanna Hoffman, Elliot D. Smith, Charan P. Morris and Storm Thomas and has since highlighted the work of 26 all-star queer poets, playwrights, and musicians, sharing their work and their experiences of coming out, finding love, breaking the silence and speaking out.

Veteran Voices
March 16th 3:00pm
Poetic Theater Productions veteran focused programming continues in this year’s festival with Veteran Voices 2019, a program that has previously featured poetry, readings, theater, and music by more than 40 veterans and family members creating art together and a post show discussion about the ways New York can further support existing and new veteran voice programming. The event is a merging of Poetic Theater Productions’ former annual Kicking Down Doors program curated by Jenny Pacanowski and Everett Cox (launched in the 2016 Poetic License Festival) and the Veteran Voices program initiated in the fall of 2017 (in collaboration with Consequence Magazine, Warrior Writers, War Literature & The Arts, and the Veteran Artist Program) presented with the 3-week run of J.A. Moad II’s production of Outside Paducah: The Wars At Home. Jenny Pacanowski, Everett Cox, J.A. Moad II and Jeremy Karafin curate.

Poetic Lyricism
March 16th 8:00pm
Continuing the partnership between Poetic Theater Productions and Musical Theatre Factory, Poetic Lyricism is a presentation of collaborative works of new poetic musical theatre featuring artists from both communities.
